Fantasy Art

This group marks a new direction in my work. I'm still using recycled materials which is important to me and still largely coming at it from a sign painter's aesthetic.

I had fun incorporating the formatting and borders like a sign painter with the octopus design and abstract swirly hair like my previous body of work into a more realistically painted fantasy image. The stone texture was made with the same faux finish technique that I've used a hundred times on murals and the bright red highlight is like a reflection from my window splashing days. Not that the average person will see any of this, but it was all there for me.

My aunt was trained as temple dancer when she was a child in Thailand. She was also a very beautiful woman...kinda odd, but very pretty. She would have fit right into a Frank Frazetta painting without any changes needed. This costume is pure fantasy from my imagination, but I like tying my fantasy work into something real and meaningful from my own experience.
